Design Media I is a 1st year graduate course that focuses both on how and why designers use media. Thus, both critical thinking about representation, and foundational tools and techniques essential to the design process are part of the curriculum. The course covers analog and digital media, 2D and 3D projections, as well as model making techniques. Design Media I was designed to be closely linked with LARC 501 (Site Matters) Studio to illustrate how intentional decisions about representation can support a project’s rhetoric. The course encourages both precision and accuracy in communicating design as well as whimsy and freedom of expression through the use of media.
